  1. Iceland is nicknamed "The Land of Fire and Ice."                                                                        a

  2. More than 60% of the population of Iceland lives in the city of Reykjavik.                                                                                   

  3. Vikings (explorers) from Norway discovered the island of Iceland.                                                                                      

  4. You can swim outdoors all year round in something called a "hot spring".  Hot springs are located all over the country and the water is heated naturally under the ground.                                                                                                   

  5. Some of the famous sites to visit while in Reykjavik are:
    - The Blue Lagoon
    - Hallgrimskirkja
    - Jokulsarlon Lagoon (aka Glacier Lagoon)
    - Gullfoss
    - Vatnajokull National Park & Thingvellir National Park
    - The Golden Circle

     

  6. Over 10% of Iceland is covered by glaciers.
     

  7. The flag of Iceland has three colors on it: red, white and blue.
     

  8. The Icelandic Horse is the only horse breed in Iceland.
     

  9. Handball is the national sport of Iceland.                                                                       

  10. The best time to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) is between March September.  They are not able to be seen every night so.... Good Luck!
