  1. Venice is actually made up of over 100 small islands.  The islands are separated by bodies of water called canals.      a

  2. People use bridges to go over the canals.  There are over 400 bridges in Venice.                                                              

  3. Small boats, called gondolas, that take people for rides on the canals.  All gondolas must be painted black.            

  4. The person that steers the gondola is called a gondolier.  There are 300 - 400 gondoliers in Venice.  Currently, only one is a woman.                                                                          

  5. Some of the famous sites to visit while in Transylvania are:
    - Bran Castle
    - Peles Castle
    - xxxx Castle
    - The Doge's Palace
    - Saint Mark's Basilica
    - Campanile (Saint Mark's Bell Tower)

     

  6. The Campanile (Bell Tower) fell down (collapsed) in 1902.  It was re-built in 1912 to look exactly like the original Bell Tower.
     

  7. The flag of Romania has three colors on it: blue, yellow and red.
     

  8. Every year Venice has a BIG party called Carnavale.  People dress up in costumes (see the picture on the left) and have lots of fun.
     

  9. No skate boards, roller skates or bikes are allowed to be used in Venice.                                                                        

  10. Famous explorer, Marco Polo, was born in Venice.
